On November 17, 1978, six weeks after The
White Cats’ demise, EMI issued a single credited
to Kelvin Blacklock with two songs produced
by Midge Ure of Rich Kids. The A-side,
I DON’T WANT OUR LOVING TO DIE, was
originally a 1968 UK hit for The Herd, a
Psych/Pop combo led by Peter Frampton. Kelvin’s
version was well arranged and decently
sung, but failed to leave any impression on the
charts. The flip, the Midge Ure-composed
ALWAYS THE LOSER, was a slow-paced pop
song of definite class. Kelvin Blacklock would
resurface in 1983 in The Mirrors, a short-lived
rock combo featuring Matt Dangerfield (ex-
The Boys) on guitar: they would release a lone
single (DANCE DANCE DANCE b/w JOHNNY
ROCK) and an album which sold poorly.
